Paneer Nuggets
Vegetarian Fast Food! These Paneer Nuggets are served with homemade french fries and ketchup.
- fresh made paneer
- 5 slices of dry whole wheat bread
- 1 cup chickpea flour or all-purpose
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt
First you will need to make some fresh paneer. Click here to learn.
When the paneer is still hot, use a regular tablespoon and scoop out nugget sized pieces and lay on a flat cutting board. You will also need another dish to catch the whey when we press the paneer. I used a baking sheet.
Sprinkle on a little salt and then place another flat cutting board, or whatever you have, on top of the paneer pieces. Now place something heavy that can be used as a weight on top of the board. Press for about 15 minutes.
Here is your finished paneer nuggets ready to be breaded.
Next, take the dried whole wheat bread and blend them up in a food processor until you have small bread crumbs.
Here is what it should look like.
Begin heating your cooking oil. The temperature should reach 380F/190C before beginning to fry. Next, add the following ingredients into a small bowl and mix together nicely:
1 cup all purpose flour or whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
In another small bowl add the buttermilk or yogurt. Now you should have a flour, buttermilk/yogurt and bread bowl ready to begin making the batter.
First take a small piece of paneer and dip it into the flour. Flour on all sides and then dip into the buttermilk on all sides and then dip into the bread crumbs. Coat the paneer completely with the bread crumbs.
Here is what they should look like. You can continue now to batter all the paneer and get them ready to fry.
When the oil has reached the right temperature, place 5 or 6 pieces in the fryer and fry until nice and golden on both sides.
Then place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Here is what they should look like.
Here is a look with one piece cut in half. Looks almost like the original chicken nugget but totally vegetarian! So yummy!
Serve with homemade french fries and homemade Ketchup and you are ready to offer to Kṛṣṇa with love and devotion!
